Peter Tavy Fair August 27th 2018
Our Intelligence Officer heard about the Dartmoor ‘Teddy Bear’ Dangerous Sports Association ‘Goal Busters’ event and decided I should be detailed off to go and check it out. (BTW: he calls himself ‘Intelligence Officer’ but opinions amongst the ranks differ wildly about that!) Anyway, I collected my travel documents and prepared to head over the RAF Peter Tavy.
Now not being a pilot was a bit of a handicap for me, so Third Officer ‘Lottie’ Bear ATA was assigned to go with me to pilot the aircraft.
We soon found the secret airstrip and presented ourselves to the Administration Desk, where a very nice lady called Donna Baker, took down our particulars, gave us our flying passes and wished us ‘Good Luck’.
Ok now. No time to waste, straight out to the Lancaster for pre-flight checks.
All strapped in and ready for take-off! A quick check with the Tower….
And we’re off…………..It was a bit weird flying backwards to take off, but the Boffins can do some clever stuff these days you know!
Bombs away!
……and safe landing.
With our mission accomplished, there was time to see some of the other ‘bomb runs’.
And Lottie and I took some time to look around before returning to Harrowbeer.
So now I have my ‘wings’! I really enjoyed my flight and can’t wait for the next opportunity to do some flying.
Bye for now!
